My name is Chris Micek. I’m a young twenty-something living in Chicago. I also design, code, and now I’m blogging.

What This blog is about

Recently (3 days ago), I quit my job as a full-time graphic designer. Now I hope to freelance full-time, working from home and random coffee shops around the city. This blog is about my transition into a freelance career as a young person. Full-time freelancing is my dream job and its interesting to be in my dream job at such a young age.

Why am I blogging?

• I didn’t want to write an “about me” Section

  I hate writing the “About Me” section of a portfolio site. This blog should give potential clients insights into my working habits and my design sense and style. If you want to know about my personal life, friend me on facebook.

• To get more freelance work

  There are huge SEO & referral benefits to having a blog. Eventually I’ll start advertising and turn this blog into a lead generation source.

• I need to practice writing.

  Sadly, my writing has suffered since high school. My college experience was very project-oriented. I learned a lot of great technical skills, but I was rarely required to put together coherent thoughts on paper.

I’ll be posting bi-weekly, on random days. My first post will be the beginning of a series explaining why I’ve decided to leave my 9 to 5 job.
