During your web consultation we’ll discuss every aspect of your business’ goals and needs in order to get an accurate timeline and budget for your web project. If you’re based locally we can meet for a Chicago web design consultation.

Web Design Costs

The biggest question on most clients mind is about cost. I hesitate to post an exact amount online because there are so many factors that can affect the overall cost of the project. Generally the production of an entire website will cost between $500 and $5000, and yes, I know its a big range. The following is a list of factors affecting the cost of a web design project.

  • Timeline

As with most industries, ordering a rush job will drive up the cost.

  • Design Options and Revisions

I generally offer 2 different web design options, from those options we pick 1 design to revise 2 to 3 times in order to get it perfect. Asking for more options and more design revisions will drive up the cost.

  • Using a Content Management System (CMS)

Adding CMS functionality to a site is fantastic because it lets clients edit their website without having to look at code! However, it is much more complicated to set up.

  • Additional Technologies

Adding major components with flash, databases, or server-side scripting requires more time and effort on my part. Don’t worry, I’m not going to charge extra for the the basics, like a contact form.

Web Design Process & Timeline

Every project is unique and your respective timeline can be different from what I’ve presented below. Basically these are rough estimates for time, but the phases are correct.

  • Phase 1: Research (1-2 weeks)

After the initial consultation, we will go over things like your target market, brand identity, and site goal, just to name a few. I will come back with design inspiration pieces (advertisements, other websites, etc.) and we’ll go over what kind of style you’re looking for.

  • Phase 2: Design (2-6 weeks)

Our next meeting will be focused on going over the site designs I have created, based on our previous meetings. Generally, we’ll pick one design to revise and revise until its perfect! Before I go onto phase 3 of the project you’ll need to sign an agreement stating that the design won’t need anymore major changes.

  • Phase 3: Development (2-6 weeks)

After the the final design has been agreed upon,  I’ll get to coding. You’ll get regular status updates and I will post a link to a temporary web address so you can check out the site’s progress. At the end of this phase the site will be live!
